 Typically, when taking an action, we consider only one layer of consequence and mitigate the risk of that single layer. However, there are often multiple layers of effects that occur after an action, and second-order thinking means uncovering multiple layers of effects on actions we take, in order to help us avoid unintended side effects.—Karen A
